Dr. Shannon Hurley
Founder and Executive Director, Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries (SOS) - Uganda
Shannon Hurley is a missionary in Uganda with a passion to love people and strengthen churches. He and his wife Danielle, along with their five children, live in the remote village of Kubamitwe, Uganda where they love, serve, and disciple this impoverished community, as well as encourage and equip the Church in Uganda by providing biblical training and leadership to over 1,500 churches in Uganda and over 3,000 churches in Kenya.
A Southern California native, Shannon has a B.A. in Biblical Counseling from Masters College, and an M.Div. and Doctor of Ministry from The Masters Seminary (TMS). After marrying his college sweetheart, Danielle, Shannon established a successful international business with clients like Aflac & Hallmark Canada. Shannon Hurley was introduced to Uganda in 1995 after traveling to Kenya with a group of ten other volunteers on a short-term missions trip. While in Kenya, he met a Kenyan missionary to Uganda. During this visit Shannon went with ten others through the country of Uganda. This trip made a tremendous impact on Shannon. His heart was moved by the love and joy of the Ugandan people.
In 2002 Shannon established Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries (SOS). In 2006, Shannon left the corporate world and moved to Uganda to serve the Ugandan people on a full-time basis. God has blessed the ministry in not only their village (where they have planted a thriving local church, primary school, & outreach programs to their community), but God has also expanded the ministry of SOS to impact over 1,500 pastors and churches, working in partnership with several national church associations throughout the country of Uganda. Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries is a non-profit organization which seeks to see Jesus Christ reigning through His Word in the hearts of all people, especially in Uganda. SOS’s focus is on loving people and strengthening churches throughout Uganda. This is done through training in the Word of God, discipleship, and lovingly reaching out to their local community. Over the last several years, God has opened doors for Shannon to provide biblical leadership to the Church in Kenya and throughout Africa. For more information about SOS Ministries, go to www.sosministries.com.
Shannon, as the Founder of SOS Ministries, is the Chief Executive Officer of SOS Uganda, overseeing a staff of over 60 at its 150-acre headquarters in Kubamitwe, including the Estate Department, Community Outreach Department, Biblical Training Department, and Education Department (including the new Legacy Christian Academy Uganda’s Primary School). Shannon is the Secretary of the SOS Uganda Board of Directors, and is also the President of the SOS USA/Canada Board of Directors, which exists to support SOS Uganda.
Shannon is passionate about the Word of God, and the hope and power of the Gospel to transform lives. He is a discipler of men, and never too busy to take time to listen, to build relationships, to show care and love for his family, his staff, and those he serves. In addition to preaching and leading the Kubamitwe Community Church and Church leaders in Uganda and Kenya, Shannon is often a guest preacher at churches in the United States and Canada, as well as national conferences, church Summer Camps, and Southern Baptist Seminary’s D3 Conference.
